Ghana Imports 90% Of Fresh Tomatoes From Burkina Faso- TTA Chairman

Mr. Eric Osei Tuffour, the National Chairman for Tomatoes and Transporters Association has revealed that about 90% of fresh tomatoes Ghanaians mainly depends for consumption are imported from Burkina Faso, a neighbouring country.

He said, sixty (60) long trucks of fresh tomatoes are being loaded to the country daily which consumers consumes without surplus.

It is quite unfortunate for a the Nation to consume more tomatoes that what it produce, there is a need to produce tomatoes that will be sufficient rather than importing from the Burkinabes, he said;

Mr. Tuffour has therefore urged the government to take a second look on tomatoes production by providing processing factories as part of the one district one factory initiative, irrigation dams in tomato farming communities in order to reduce the higher rate of tomatoes importation.
