My Focus Is To Remain Influential Not Recording A Hit Song – Sarkodie

It’s the fervent wish and prayer of virtually every start-up artiste as well as established ones on how to cook chart-topping songs but in the voice of rapper Sarkodie, he thinks otherwise.

According to Sarkodie,  recording a hit song isn’t difficult but it doesn’t guarantee an artiste to become influential for decades or better still relevant in the game for years. Therefore, artistes including himself who desire to stay relevant for long in the music business.
He made the assertion at the launch of the 5th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) at the Movenpick Hotel. He noted that one can have a hit song but may lack what it takes to reign in the industry because of lack of influence.
Sarkodie explained that every artiste needs to build a large following, record timeless songs and build a lucrative brand that will pierce the hearts of die-hard fans.
“The young ones should focus on building a [solid] brand… it lets you make money anytime you want… We say we need hit songs which is very easy. People don’t know but hit songs are very easy. You can say something and it hits tomorrow but that doesn’t mean you’re influential…”
AFRIMA is a platform designed to promote the distinct rich African music worldwide, engaging millions of fans by propelling its music to glorious pinnacles beyond the borders of Africa.
